Hans Wegner (Denmark 1914-2007)

“We must take care that everything does not get so dreadfully serious. We must play but we must play seriously”

Hans J. Wegner was the unquestionable king of Danish chair design. Wegner was one of the Danish furniture designers whose elegant but comfortable creations made Danish Modern all the rage in the ’50s and ’60s. Standing among the likes of Arne Jacobsen, Poul Kjærholm and Verner Panton as titans of 20th-century Danish Modernism, Wegner was key in helping mould what would become the lasting Danish furniture aesthetic.
