Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci

“There is no beauty without functionality: this is, for us at Archirivolto, the most innovative synthesis of design.” Claudio Dondoli and Marco Pocci both hail from Colle Val d`elsa, in Tuscany, whereArchirivolto, their design studio, is still located. Dondoli and Pocci met while studying architecture in Florence and working alongside one another in an experimental theatre group. In 1983 they opened Archirivolto, theirdesign studio, bringing together their interest in design, their friendship and a dash of the theatrical into their joint creations. Immediately, their pieces were drenched in creativity, but with a solid sense of reality and a respect for the end user.Dondoli and Pocci spent the bulk of their time in industrial and architectural Italian furniture chairs projects, but in 1989,they committed themselves exclusively to industrial chair design. Their missionwas to create beauty for everyone and make design approachable and affordable for an ever increasing number of people. Dondoli and Pocci held that true innovation in modern, designer wood chairs today is based on the use of technology and materials. The “Archivolto” studio has worked with Pedrali for many years to bring their creations to life. The “Ice” chair, the “Tatami” chair, the “Gossip” and the “Smart” chair have had great success both within the design community and commercially. For the “Archirivolto” studio, a project starts with a direct relationship with the customer. Then a good product mustbe affordable. The search for the most innovative materials and technologically advanced processes allows for the best results to be achieved in terms of a quality-price ratio; this is one of the drivingideas of the studio and Dondoli and Pocci, the men at the helm of Archirivolto.
