A Buyer's Guide to Choosing the Right Dining Table

Dining Table

A dining table can be an investment that will last for years to come, which is why you want to take your time to choose the right one. There are multiple things to consider, and if you do your research you can find the perfect table for your budget.

Not all dining tables have to be square or rectangular, although many of them are. Sometimes you need to take into account where the table will be and how it will fit in the room. You may find that a round or oval table fits better in your kitchen or dining room.

Get the Right Size

A big component when it comes to choosing the right dining table is to get the right size, not only for the room but also to fit the right amount of people. If you live in a smaller apartment and you don’t entertain very much, you may find that a small table for two is perfect. On the other end of the spectrum, you may want a table that will fit all of your family and friends for a big holiday meal.

If you have a bigger dining room, you can purchase a table that can seat around six to eight guests. Your best bet to accommodate a large group of people is to purchase an extendible table. This type of table is a space saver in that you can keep it compact when there are only a few of you, but allows you to extend it to fit more people. While you can find tables that have separate leaf extensions, some of the new styles include the extensions in the table, which makes it more convenient and nicer to look at.

Consider the Material

For a table that will last a long time, you want to make sure that you purchase good quality material. Nice dining tables are available in a number of different woods. Search out solid Oak or Beechwood for a sturdy, good looking table. You can have them stained different colors such as black, walnut, or brown, or you can keep its natural wood color.

Don’t shy away from glass tables, either. Glass tops can be very modern and simple, with their clean lines and simple forms. Often the base and the legs will be made with solid wood, but you will run across some that are very contemporary and may have steel or other material as the base.

Prepare for the Elements

Don’t forget about dining outside. You can have a stylish table outdoors that won’t get ruined by wind and rain, but you do have to know what to look for. The key is in the material, and there are some great looking tables that are meant to be outdoors. Teak is a hard wood that is known for its water resistance and durability. It also looks very natural, yet contemporary. You can choose an all teak table, or decide to have a teak table top with steel legs, which are also weather resistant.

No matter what your dining needs are, there are tables designed for all styles and budgets. If you like classic, modern, or traditional styles, you can easily find the right table.
