Verner Panton will always be remembered for hiseponymous Panton Chair. The Panton is, without a doubt Verner Panton's best known and perhaps most significant design. Its curvilinear, cantilevered form was unusual and visually striking.Technologically advanced, the Panton was the very first single-form injection-moulded plastic chair. An icon of 20th century chair design, the recognizable S-form of the Panton chair while familiar now, was entirely new in 1960. It has been made and remade and remade yet again in so many bright and fun colours. As Panton himself noted, "Most people spend their lives living in dreary, beige conformity, mortally afraid of using color. The main purpose of my work is to provoke people into using their imagination and make their surroundings more exciting."

While Panton created one of the most daring and famous chair designs of the twentieth century and will likely be remembered for that, he also a significant contributor to the organic movement early on and later put himself at the forefront of avant-garde design. Panton explore bold colours, extraordinary geometric forms and he had a penchant for original, inventive, innovative creation.

Vernor Panton worked in concert with renowned manufacturers like Fritz Hansen, Louis Poulsen, and Vitra, and collectivelythey pushed technology to its limits. While Panton produced many things, it was his design philosophy that may prove to be his true opus. Panton created wholly new domestic spaces, fusing seemingly unconnected elements, and with his penchant for colour and geometric shapes until his vision took on a kaleidoscope quality that was perfectly suited for the psychedelic sixties and salient even today and colour and modern pop are yet again at the forefront of design.

While, this is not original. But at this price one should not care, unless they want bragging rights to an artistic investment of dubious value. This chair is awesome! I really like it better than the picture. Quite comfortable to sit in. I chose black to avoid showing dirt or scratches - you really need to consider how it will be used. Only time will tell how the injected molded material will wear over time, but at this price, it is easily replaced. There are different substances for injection molding, and unless you are an engineer or designer, we are at the mercy of the manufacturer. It all seems like "plastic", but I now know this not to be true. Some injected molded materials can withstand a 22 cal shell from 15 feet and only show a dent, BUT NO penetration or even crack. It would be interesting to know what compound is used, and its structural integrity over time and sittings. Despite all this, at this price, it is a nice look, very comfortable, and within my budget! Thanks for packaging it so well and the timely delivery.
