Designer Charles and Ray Eames (1907-1978 1912-1988)
Husband and wife American design team, Charles and Ray (Bernice) Eames, created the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs. Forged by the mid century modern era titans of furniture and industrial design, these chairs were the epitome of innovation. Today, they are still stand outs for their resilience and timeless design. True classics never go out of style.
The Eames along with other of the designers of the time, focused their efforts on the innovative, new plastics. The new, innovative materials gave them the ability to create shapes in furnishings that were entirely new. What fun was had with these new plastics that could take on rounded shapes that would conform to the shape of the body. The malleable materials offered artists the ability to realize ideas like never before and we see this is some of the stand out designs of the time. The Eames became emblematic of the mid-century modern design movement.
