Designer Harry Bertoia (Italy 1916-1978)
Italian born Harry Bertoia used his impressive sculpting skills to bend and shape industrial wire rods into chairs that would become icons of 20th century furniture design. Bertoia’s collection was so commercially successful that he was able to dedicate himself entirely to his first love, sculpting.
In Harry Bertoia's own words, "If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them." Bertoia experimented with open forms and metal work in his sculptural art, and these chairs were an extension of that work. Bertoia, having the artistic freedom to work on whatever fancied him and without the confines so many other designers faced, created the Bertoia Seating Collection(1952).
With his collection of iconic seating transformed from industrial wire rods, Harry Bertoia created an entirely new furniture form. Our Relax House Bertoia inspired replica chair is no less handsome with the same innovative design lines and striking sculptural form. Our replica Bertoia will elevate its surroundings with its innovative, comfortable and decidedly attractive form.
